George H McArthur IV, PhD
I am a Scientist and a NSF Research Fellow at Arzeda Corp., where I develop novel metabolism in industrial bacteria and fungi. Before joining Arzeda, I was the Product Development director at GenoCAD, a software biotech startup, and a Whitaker International Fellow at Imperial College London's Centre for Synthetic Biology and Innovation. I earned my PhD in Chemical Engineering from Virginia Commonwealth University and my BS (Chem. Engr., Music and Biology) from the University of Virginia.
Quantitative Synthetic Biology
Building Living Models
I study biology through model-guided (re)design and rigorous, quantitative characterization of genetically encoded parts and systems with the ultimate aim of being able to design entire cells (e.g., bacteria) for a variety of applications including the economical production of high-value chemicals such as anticancer drugs that are natively produced by plants.
